Insights 2008—Inspired by a Council of Your Peers

As we planned Insights 2008, we reached out to the Sage Software partner community for suggestions and opinions on everything from session content and length to speakers and entertainment. As a result, this year’s conference has been revitalized with the types of learning and networking opportunities you’ve been asking for.

How the partner advisory council was formed
It started as an idea; to involve a council of your peers for the purpose of helping to improve the Insights conference for the overall partner community. Since this is your conference, who better to ask? The selection process occurred in two waves. First, we asked for partner volunteers to participate in an Insights focus group (hosted at Sage Summit in Chicago, November 2007). All participants were later invited to join the advisory.

The final step was to ensure that partners from all product lines were represented and to make certain we achieved a broad demographic mix in terms of partner organizational sizes. After the gaps were filled, the advisory council went to work.

What the partner advisory council has contributed
The Insights partner advisory council has been instrumental in shaping Insights 2008. Here’s a quick summary of their contributions:

• ACTION: Insights focus group meeting in Chicago
  RESULT: New educational sessions and learning tracks are now defined into role-based clusters that better reflect the inner workings of partner organizations. The agenda was expanded to accommodate longer sessions and deliver more in-depth content in more diverse formats (roundtables, panels, guest speakers, partner-led sessions, hands-on labs, and more).
• ACTION: Poll #1—Learning Track Titles
  RESULT: The poll showed the need for seven learning tracks to be in line with all the various roles and job disciplines within partner practices. Insights 2008 is truly for everyone.
• ACTION: Poll #2—Opening Keynote
  RESULT: Partners were asked to identify their top picks for an opening keynote speaker. By a wide margin, the top choice among the advisory council was best-selling author and international business leader John Maxwell.
• ACTION: Poll #3—Awards Gala Headliner
  RESULT: Participants were asked to select the top two preferences for entertainment. Comedian Frank Caliendo was the #1 choice.
• ACTION: Poll #4—Closing Luncheon Keynote
  RESULT: The council was polled for the top two preferences. Legendary football coach Lou Holtz ranked as #2 in the top selections.
• ACTION: Poll #5—Trade Show Behavior and Sage Corporate Booth Interests
  RESULT: The council was asked to identify the most important aspects for business partners to do and see in the Sage Corporate Booth. As a result, numerous changes have been implemented that should make better use of your time with a more productive and efficient booth experience.
• ACTION: Poll #6—Session Quality Spot-Checks
  RESULT: Some council members have agreed to spot-check new session materials to ensure that it’s in line with the educational needs of the partner community.
